Vanity combines two contrasting visual languages: medical laboratories and beauty retail. The objects I created incorporated rabbit flesh and fur to further comment on the animal testing conducted for cosmetic companies.  The objects included slick lipstick tubes with surgical tools emerging from the base of the container, eye shadow pallets with rabbit fur, and a rabbit skin makeup bag. All these objects sit on stainless steel medical instrument trays with a warm light illuminating the objects from the cosmetic mirror. This work was influenced by tangential artwork, such as Janine Antoni’s Lipstick/Phenylethylamine Display.
