Alyse-Ambriel Hanna is a Boise-based artist whose artwork addresses the importance of feminism, animal rights, and human entanglement with nature. Hanna earned her Bachelor of Arts in Art Education in 2017 and her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Arts: Jewelry/Metals/Enameling in 2019 from Kent State University. She is working towards her Master of Fine Arts at Boise State University, with her expected graduation in May 2024. As an active educator in the Boise community, Hanna teaches classes at FireFusion Studio and metalsmithing courses at Boise State University. She has created public works displayed through Surel’s Place, illuminating the importance of human connection to nature. Hanna has been published in the book The Art of Fine of Enameling, Second Edition, by Karen L. Cohen,  published in 2019.  She won a Finalist Award in the 5th Figurative Exhibition through Art Show International Gallery in Los Angeles in February 2023 and First Place in the 2023 All Women Artist virtual exhibition hosted by Contemporary Art Gallery Online in the category of Social Practice.

 

Hanna works interdisciplinary, utilizing photography, video, metalsmithing, and sculpture to create a conversation that empowers women and cultivates positive change within her community.  Her artwork offers an exploration of interconnectedness—starting with human connection to the planet, non-human animals, and the complex connections humans have with one another.  By engaging in ecofeminism, political activism, beauty standards, and factory farming, her work often utilizes motifs deriving from nature, advertisements, as well as familiar man-made objects.  Hanna frequently offers the viewer a satirical entry point to challenging topics, allowing humor to act as a lubricant when the subject matter seems difficult to approach.
